Pleasure & Pain

Out August 11, 2026 · Kindle & Paperback

Ariel wasn't looking for forever. She was looking for something that felt good.

Jason was everything the apps never delivered. Attentive, generous, and certain. He texted good morning before her alarm went off and remembered things she had only mentioned once. After years of "almost," this felt like being found.

Then came the questions. Where she'd been. Who she was with. Why she needed anyone else at all. Every answer bought a little peace. Every answer cost a little ground.

By the time Ariel understood what she had agreed to, the safe word didn't work anymore, and the only people left who could reach her were the two friends she'd been talked out of calling.

Kim built the life she was supposed to want. Chris shows her everything she was never supposed to want.

At thirty she's the youngest CIO in the history of one of Virginia's largest financial institutions. Parents who still call every Sunday, a best friend who'd bury a body for her, and a corner office with a view of nothing she wants.

Then Chris finds her. Eleven years after one night cost him his NFL dreams and ended their friendship. He's steadier, softer, and honest about everything except one thing.

When Kim finally learns what Chris has been carrying, she doesn't walk away. She stays. And staying is what brings Jalen into her life.

Content note Explicit sexual content, polyamory, and adult themes. Intended for readers 18+.

Trophy Wife

In development

Travon Nancy was a top-three draft pick before he ever played a college game. Katrina Monroe had been beside him since sophomore year of high school.

Sharp, funny, halfway to a mechanical engineering degree. And, according to everyone with an opinion, not the kind of woman a man like him ends up with. Lose weight. Study less. Pay attention. Be easier to photograph.

One week before March Madness, he made her the ex-girlfriend. Then he won a national championship, went number one, and married Veronica Riddendale, the university president's daughter. She was raised her whole life to be exactly what Travon believed he'd earned.

Veronica keeps his schedule. She keeps his image. She keeps a tracker on his phone and a policy on his life.

It takes a restraining order for Travon to understand what the word trophy actually means. By then Veronica has stopped wanting him home and started wanting him gone. He goes looking for Katrina anyway.

Content note Stalking, obsessive and violent behavior, infidelity, and body shaming. Explicit sexual content. Intended for readers 18+.

About the author

Renee Speaks

Renee Speaks writes contemporary adult romance about the complicated realities of love, intimacy, identity, betrayal, and desire. Her stories blend emotional depth with psychological drama, and the intimate moments are there to reveal character and move the story, not to decorate it. She draws on real experience and the tangle of modern relationships to build people whose choices are rarely simple or predictable.

She wrote her first complete story, The Mystery Kids, in the fourth grade. Poetry, music, and personal essays followed. After years of writing as Renee Speaks, she decided to finish what she started at ten and become a published author.

Outside fiction she works in a specialized field spanning technology, data management, and science, and is pursuing a doctorate researching technological innovation and its effect on people and organizations. Fiction or research, the pull is the same: human behavior, identity, faith, and the truths people struggle to say out loud.

Pleasure & Pain is her first release in The Dating Files.
